This scheme trains undergraduates to coach Year 12 students in effective study skills over five sessions.
The Widening Participation team are running this coaching scheme for the second year. Working with our partner Sixth Forms, the scheme pairs undergraduate trained coaches with Year 12 students. It is designed for students who are finding it hard adjusting to the academic commitment of A level study and who would value help and support in the form of 121 focused sessions. The sessions are designed around a set coaching framework. The aim is to provide Year 12 students with the support and strategies which are effective to improve study. Successful coach applicants are ideally students who have themselves experienced the support of a mentoring or coaching scheme, or those with similar experiences of overcoming academic challenges successfully. This scheme is not subject related however you may be paired with students who have a similar subject interests. All sessions will take place at the participating Sixth Forms.

Coaches will be matched to a minimum of two students. Sessions which each individual student last one hour, five sessions in total per student (therefore a minimum of 10 hours per coach per term).
In consultation with your academic diary, sessions will be allocated each week/fortnightly. Sessions will take place during the normal school day as such please consider your academic commitments prior to applying. We respect students are juggling their study and place priority upon this. We ask for applicants to consider their ability to manage their time effectively to be able to work and study.
As the scheme expands you may be offered additional schools and students and the scheme may be ongoing throughout the academic year.
You will be required to travel to participating schools as part of your contract.
Open to all current QMUL students.
Priority will be given to students who are in second or third year and above.
