International students

As an international student, you probably have many questions about working in the UK. These pages have information especially written to respond to the common queries international students have regarding part time work, internships and work experience, as well as working after your graduation. There are also guideline and advice on how to put together CVs and complete application forms using the UK standard style and format.

How QM Careers can help

  • Assist with choosing a career and developing a careers action plan through discussions with careers advisers
  • Provide information and presentations about different careers, employers and postgraduate study in the UK and overseas
  • Advise on finding part-time work, work experience or internships
  • Help with making applications, writing CVs and preparing for interviews
  • Provide a part-time and full-time online job vacancy database

What we cannot do:

  • We don't recommend students to employers: we can help you find out about employers but we don't place students into companies
  • We cannot provide specific lists of employers recruiting people from your country or your degree subject
  • We don't have an adviser dedicated to placing you in part-time work
  • We don't correct all mistakes in spelling and grammar in CVs or application forms: the College English Language and Learning Unit offer this service.

Work Regulations

New regulations have been introduced for permission to work in the UK after studies. Please see Queen Mary's Advice and Counselling Service website for the latest information. The Advice and Counselling department at QM offer international students advice on money, immigration and other practical aspects of coming to live and study in the UK.  Please contact them for advice and information about your legal rights to work in the UK during and after your course.
