Eligibility

Funding awards are open to currently registered QMUL home students and graduates who finished their course under two years ago. International students who have Tier 4 (General) Student immigration permission are not permitted to be self-employed, so are only eligible to apply via the Build It route as this award supports pre-trade prototype development.

‘Try It' Awards

If you’re still at idea stage you can apply to InQUBEate for mentoring and advice to help you to test your concept. At the end of the InQUBEate programme you can pitch for up to £500 of funding to try out your idea. You don’t need to have a business plan, just a problem you want to solve and some idea of how you might do it.

Step 1: Get feedback on your idea at an Enterprise Appointment (phone 020 7882 8533 to book).
Step 2: Create a 2-minute video pitch. Use your video to introduce your idea, explaining what it is, why you want to set it up, why you want a place on InQUBEate and why you need funding, e.g. what you would spend it on. Upload your video to a hosting service such as YouTube or Vimeo and send the link to enterprise@qmul.ac.uk.
Step 3: If your application is successful you will be invited to pitch at a panel interview.

‘Grow It’ Awards

If you already have a business or social enterprise you can apply for a grant of up to £5000 to grow it. You will need to be able to show that you already have a product or service that has been tested on customers. If successful in your application, you will receive £2500 at the start of the InQUBEate programme, and £2500 at the end of the programme once you can demonstrate that you've made progress.

Step 1: Get feedback on your idea at an Enterprise Appointment (phone 020 7882 8533 to book).

‘Build It’ Awards

If you have an idea that you can’t test before you’ve developed a prototype, you can apply for up to £10,000 to develop one (e.g. an app, website, or physical prototype). To win a Build It prize you need to undertake significant market research to show that your product has commercial potential and offers an innovative solution to a market need. We’ll also ask you to outline exactly how this money would help you to take your idea to the next stage (e.g. trials, manufacturing, or raising further finance). If successful you will receive £5000 at the start of the InQUBEate programme, and £5000 at the end of the programme once you can demonstrate that you've made progress.
