QInsight is an innovative employability programme designed for prestigious graduate employers who are looking to make their graduate recruitment process more accessible to students from diverse or under-represented backgrounds.

QInsight is designed to offer Queen Mary undergraduates an opportunity to develop a deep insight into a high profile graduate recruiter, its commercial context, culture, career paths and its application and recruitment methods, with an over-arching goal of improving students’ success in graduate application processes, whatever the role and sector.

How does QInsight work?

A member of the Careers & Enterprise team will work closely with the host organisation to design a series of four to six interactive sessions focusing on the aspects of the host’s recruitment process where students from under-represented backgrounds often struggle. These sessions may include insight presentations, interactive workshops and mock assessments led by the host as well as visit their offices where networking is facilitated. By the end of the programme students will have increased their awareness and understanding of the host’s application and assessment processes as well as built their confidence around professional networking and commercial awareness. Deficits in these areas commonly disadvantage students from non-traditional university backgrounds.

This scheme is ideal for large organisations with a rigorous graduate recruitment process.

  • It is a fantastic opportunity for prestigious businesses with a rigorous application process wishing to increase their graduate intake of bright Russell Group students from diverse and sometimes underprivileged backgrounds. 
  • It is a great opportunity to encourage a diverse group of students to apply for upcoming internship and graduate schemes, providing them with tips and expert advice.
  • QInsight was piloted in 2017-18 with the Civil Service Fast Stream. 100% of student participants reported post-pilot an increased awareness of the Civil Service, 95% that they felt more confident/equipped to apply to graduate schemes after participating, and 100% fed back that they planned on applying to the Civil Service after the programme.
