Gain insight into companies who are both well-known and new to you, learn about the day-to-day culture, their internship and graduate application processes and e-meet their employees!

Generously supported by the Sir John Cass’s Foundation

Would you like to find out what your chosen career path is really like? Are you looking to gain more insight into a sector? Or do you just have no idea where to start with making your career choices? QTaster gives you the opportunity to gain an insight into different sectors, working environments and roles across a range of graduate employers.

Despite the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, QTaster Summer will still go ahead but will take place virtually.

If you have applied to any of these programmes and no longer wish to be considered for a place on QTaster Summer, please let us know and we can withdraw your application.

Applications for QTaster Summer are open! Please click here to apply. The deadline is midnight on Sunday 10th May.

What will a QTaster virtual session involve?

All QTaster Summer sessions will take place online. These may include:

  • Presentations by different speakers from across the organisation
  • Virtual tours of the offices
  • Information about their internship and graduate recruitment processes
  • Interactive online activities
  • Facilitated online networking sessions
  • And, of course, the opportunity to ask lots of questions!

The online skills sessions will outline how to make the most of the online sessions and how to apply your new commercial awareness and professional networking skills to shape your career choices.

What is the time commitment?

QTaster takes place 3 times a year:

  • Semester A (September - December)
  • Semester B (January - March)
  • Summer (June)

Each programme requires you to attend 3-4 employer visits/online sessions and 2 skills sessions.

If you take part in QTaster in Semester A or Semester B, all the sessions take place on Wednesday afternoons. QTaster Summer is a condensed version of the semester programme, so sessions will take place over two weeks in June.

Can I choose which employers I visit?

You can provide preferences and we will try our best to allocate based on these. This may not always be possible, but remember, it is all about different experiences and exploring organisations who are new to you.

Is QTaster for me?

QTaster is ideal if you have ever had any doubts or uncertainty about your future career path – the programme gives you a real life insight into individual roles and sectors. It could confirm you are happy with your current direction or you might be inspired by an area you have never heard of! Due to funding, QTaster is only open to Undergraduate students and a limited number of Post Graduate students.

How does QTaster benefit me?

You will increase your skills in commercial awareness and professional networking. By visiting or e-meeting a variety of different organisations, your knowledge of different industries and roles will expand along with your knowledge of how to research careers and companies. It will increase your confidence in networking and many students come away with some valuable contacts. You will also benefit from coaching from professional experts who will help you apply what you’ve learnt so you can get ahead in your career.

Successful completion of QTaster will appear on your HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Record). The programme is designed and structured to complement the development of your professional skills.

What types of employers have hosted through QTaster in the past?

Organisations include Microsoft, the Civil Service, KPMG, Macmillan Cancer Support, John Lewis, UBS and many more!

Is there work outside of the sessions?

Yes, but don’t worry, it’s not too much! We just ask that you keep a reflective journal during your time on the scheme to ensure you get the most out of it.

What have previous QTaster participants said?

Check out these blogs from Aakanksha and Asifa to hear more about their experience on the programme.

Is there support for the travel costs?

Yes. If you are concerned about how you will pay for the travel costs to different host organisations in London, please do speak to the QTaster Programme Coordinator. Travel funds are available to those students who need it at a first come, first served basis.
