Funding

We’re on the hunt for the most innovative businesses and social enterprises emerging from QMUL.

Are you a QMUL student or graduated less than two years ago? Do you have a business idea or have already started trading? Is your idea the next big thing?

Here is your opportunity to win up to £10,000 in equity-free awards, as well as expert mentoring and dedicated start-up support through our 8-week QIncubator programme.

If you have an idea for a business that you’d like to start or grow we have Try It (up to £500), Grow It (up to £5,000) and Build It (up to £10,000) funding awards available.

Our 2019/20 funding deadlines are as follows:

Round 1: Wednesday 16th October 2019 – Sunday 24th November 2019, 11:59pm

Round 2: Wednesday 8th January 2020 - Sunday 16th February 2020, 11:59pm

Round 3: Wednesday 4th March 2020 - Sunday 12th April 2020, 11:59pm

Eligibility

  • Currently registered QMUL home students and recent graduates who finished their course under two years ago can apply for any of our awards.
  • International students who have Tier 4 (General) Student immigration permission are restricted from the Try It and Grow It awards as they are not permitted to be self-employed, but are eligible to apply via the Build It route as this award supports pre-trade prototype development.

Our funding awards are sponsored by Santander University Division, which supports QM Enterprise through funding, mentoring, training and internships.

In 2019, Rebecca Rickwood will be taking part in the finals of the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards with her eco-friendly, geopolymer cement business Gement. Read more about her experience in a blog post, here.

Since 2011, Santander has held an annual business pitching competition called the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards. Participants can win a range of prizes including seed funding, mentoring and start-up support. Since the competition's launch, Santander has awarded more than £420,000 to entrepreneurs from across the UK.
