Gemma Garrett joined Queen Mary as a full time Careers Consultant in 2015 and works primarily with PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
Gemma has a Masters degree in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry from the University of Oxford. After graduating, she spent a brief period working at the MRC Immunochemistry Unit in Oxford, before leaving the laboratory for a role at the Royal Society of Chemistry. She spent the next ten years working in a variety education-based roles within scientific Learned Societies, including the Biochemical Society and Royal Society of Biology. During this time Gemma worked with extensively school students and teachers, undergraduates, postgraduates, early career researchers, senior academics and employers. Gemma was involved in delivering, developing and overseeing a wide range of activities including grants, teaching and careers resources, events, degree accreditation, outreach activities in the UK and Africa, and science education and research-related policy work.
